Welcome to Your Blume Hair Care Guide

Hair care is one of the questions we get asked the most by our Blume Queens and honestly, we get it
When you invest in hair extensions, you want them looking flawless for as long as possible.

Every hair extension needs love and care to give you its best, Whether it’s human or synthetic,
the right care routine makes all the difference.

1: Choose the Right Stylist

The first and most important step after purchasing your Blume Luxe extensions is choosing the right stylist.
Not every stylist has experience working with body wave or wavy extensions. An inexperienced installation can affect the final look, reduce the lifespan of your extensions, and make even the highest-quality hair appear unsatisfactory.

2: Leave the Hair Alone for the First Few Days

One of the biggest mistakes people make is starting a hair care routine immediately after installation.

Your extensions have just been installed, the curls are fresh, the shine is at its best, and the style is still perfectly defined. For the first few days, there is no need to apply serums, curl creams, mousse, or other styling products unless absolutely necessary.

The more you manipulate the hair from day one, the more product builds up on the strands. Over time, this buildup can weigh the hair down, dull its natural shine, reduce curl definition, and shorten the lifespan of your extensions.

Give your hair time to settle after installation. Enjoy it as it is, and only begin your maintenance routine when the hair genuinely needs a refresh.

Remember: With extensions, less is often more. Using products only when needed will help keep your hair looking beautiful for longer.

3: Brush Your Extensions Regularly

As you wear your extensions, you may begin to notice some tangling or slight matting. This is completely normal, especially with body wave and wavy styles. The solution is simple brush your hair regularly.

Just as demonstrated in our video, gently brush through the hair to remove tangles and keep the strands smooth. You do not need to apply serum every time you brush. In fact, using too much product can lead to buildup, making the hair feel heavy and reducing its natural movement and shine over time.

Only apply a small amount of serum when:
– Your extensions need a little extra shine.
– You want to refresh or define the waves.
– The hair feels dry after several wears.

Don’t be afraid to brush your extensions. Brushing will not remove the waves or ruin the hair when done correctly. Treat your extensions the same way you would care for a sew-in or a wig regular brushing is an essential part of keeping them looking neat and preventing knots from becoming worse.

If your hair becomes tangled, always brush it out before assuming there is a problem with the extensions. In many cases, a few minutes of gentle brushing is all that’s needed to restore the hair’s smooth, beautiful appearance.

4: Use the Right Amount of Hair

Choosing the right number of bundles is just as important as choosing the right extensions.

Each bundle of our Blume Luxe Body Wave and Wavy Extensions weighs 100g, and for most hairstyles, we recommend 3/4 bundles (300–400g). This provides a beautiful look while keeping your hair comfortable to wear and easy to maintain.

While some styles may require additional bundles for extra volume, keep in mind that the more hair you install, the more time and care it will require. More hair means more strands to brush, wash, dry, and style, so choosing an amount that matches both your desired look and your lifestyle is important.

Our goal isn’t simply to achieve the fullest hairstyle, it’s to achieve a hairstyle that remains beautiful, manageable, and long-lasting.

5: Protect Your Hair While You Sleep

The way you sleep has a huge impact on how your extensions look the next morning.

Sleeping with your hair loose allows the strands to rub against your pillow throughout the night. This constant friction can cause frizz, tangles, and make the hair lose its neat appearance much faster.

Before going to bed:
– Gently brush your extensions to remove any tangles.
– Tie the hair into one or two loose braids, or a loose ponytail if preferred.
– Wear a satin bonnet or wrap your hair with a silk or satin scarf.
– If you don’t wear a bonnet, sleep on a satin pillowcase to reduce friction.

Taking just a few minutes to protect your hair each night can significantly extend the life of your extensions and help your style stay fresh for longer.

Daisy Italian Curls

1: Choose the Right Stylist

The first and most important step after purchasing your Blume Luxe extensions is choosing the right stylist.
An inexperienced installation can affect the final look, reduce the lifespan of your extensions, and make even the highest-quality hair appear unsatisfactory.

To find recommended stylists check our Blume Partner Salon

2: Use Daisy Curls as Intended

Our Blume Daisy Italian Curls are specially designed for boho braids, and this is the installation method we recommend for the best results. While some customers may choose to use them for crochet styles, we do not recommend this, and any such use is at the customer’s discretion.

3: Separate the Curls Gently

When separating the curls during installation, apply a small amount of curl cream to help the strands glide apart smoothly.

Always separate the curls gently with your fingers, and avoid pulling or tugging on them. Pulling the curls apart forcefully can create frizz, stretch the fibers, and affect the curl definition.

Remember: Be patient and separate the curls slowly. Gentle handling helps preserve the curl pattern and keeps your boho braids looking soft, neat, and natural.

4: Refresh the Curls with a Light Serum

As your hairstyle begins to lose a little of its shine over time, apply a small amount of lightweight serum to refresh the curls and restore their natural luster.

Dispense a few drops into your palms, rub your hands together, and gently smooth the serum over the curls. Avoid applying too much, as excessive product can lead to buildup, weigh the curls down, and reduce their natural bounce.

5: Protect Your Hair While You Sleep

Sleeping with your hair loose allows the strands to rub against your pillow throughout the night. This constant friction can cause frizz, tangles, and make the hair lose its neat appearance much faster.

– Wear a satin bonnet or wrap your hair with a silk or satin scarf.
– If you don’t wear a bonnet, sleep on a satin pillowcase to reduce friction.

Jasmine Curls

Please Note: The care instructions for our Blume Daisy Italian Curls also apply to our Blume Jasmine Curls. We recommend reading the Daisy Italian Curl Care Guide first before proceeding with this.

6: Suitable for Both Boho Braids and Crochet

Unlike our Daisy Italian Curls, Blume Jasmine Curls are designed to work beautifully for both boho braids and crochet installations. Simply choose the installation method that best suits your desired style.

7: Avoid Over-Separating the Curls Before Crochet Installation

If you’re installing Jasmine Curls as a crochet style, avoid over-separating the curls before installation. Keeping the curls more intact helps maintain their structure and reduces the chances of the hair tangling or matting prematurely.

8: Refresh Matted Curls the Right Way

If your Jasmine Curls begin to mat after a crochet installation, don’t panic, this can usually be managed with proper care.

Using a wide-tooth comb, gently work through the affected areas to separate the curls. Once the hair has been detangled, apply a small amount of lightweight serum to redefine the curls, restore shine, and bring the hairstyle back to life.

The Complete Guide to Caring for Afro Kinky Bulk Hair

Afro Kinky Bulk Hair is loved for its natural texture, fullness, and versatility. Whether you’re using it to create locs, twists, braids, or other protective styles, proper care is essential if you want your hair to stay full, soft, and beautiful for as long as possible.

One thing you may notice over time is a small amount of shedding. Finding a few loose strands while washing, styling, or maintaining your hair is not necessarily a sign that something is wrong.

Some shedding is normal. Excessive shedding, however, can often be reduced with the right installation and maintenance routine.

In this guide, we’ll explain why Afro Kinky Bulk Hair may shed, how to tell normal shedding from excessive shedding, and the simple habits that can help keep your hair looking full and healthy for longer.

Why Does Afro Kinky Bulk Hair Shed?

A little shedding can happen with any human hair, including high-quality Afro Kinky Bulk Hair.

Shedding becomes a concern when you notice:

– Your locs, twists, or braids becoming visibly thinner
– A noticeable reduction in fullness
– Large amounts of hair coming out during washing or styling
– Weak or sparse areas developing over time

Common reasons Afro Kinky Bulk Hair may shed

Friction and tension:
The tight, springy texture can experience friction against clothing, scarves, bedding, and even other strands.

Tight installation:
Pulling or manipulating the hair too aggressively during installation can put unnecessary stress on the strands.

Dryness:
When the hair becomes excessively dry, it can lose flexibility and become more prone to breakage.

Rough handling:
Trying to comb, separate, or detangle the hair while it is dry can cause unnecessary breakage.

Product buildup:
Heavy products and excessive use of styling products can leave residue on the hair, making it harder to cleanse and maintain properly.

Frequent manipulation:
Constantly twisting, pulling, brushing, or restyling the hair can gradually weaken the strands.

Understanding the Texture of Afro Kinky Bulk Hair

Afro Kinky Bulk Hair has a naturally coily texture that closely resembles natural Afro-textured hair.

However, its unique texture also means it requires a gentle approach.

This is why moisture, gentle handling, and minimal manipulation are so important.

Taking care of the texture rather than fighting against it will help your hair maintain its fullness and appearance.

Normal Shedding vs. Excessive Shedding

Not every loose strand is a reason to worry.

Normal shedding
You may notice a few loose strands when washing, styling, or lightly separating your hair.
The important thing is that your overall hairstyle still looks full and the thickness remains relatively consistent.
A few loose strands over time are normal.

Excessive shedding
Excessive shedding is different.
You may notice:
– Larger amounts of hair coming out at once
– Your locs or twists becoming noticeably thinner
– Sparse areas developing
– Reduced fullness around certain sections
– Increased breakage whenever the hair is handled

If you regularly find large amounts of hair coming out every time you wash, style, or touch your hair, it is worth taking a closer look at your maintenance routine.

In simple terms: a few loose strands are normal. Consistent handfuls of hair or noticeable thinning are not.

What Can Cause Afro Kinky Bulk Hair to Thin?
  1. Not Enough Moisture
Dry hair is more fragile and more likely to break.
Afro Kinky textures benefit from regular hydration to help the strands remain flexible and manageable.
  2. Harsh or Heavy Products
Some products can leave the hair dry or create significant buildup when used too frequently.
Choose lightweight products that provide moisture without constantly coating the hair.
  3. Friction While Sleeping
Cotton bedding can create friction and absorb moisture from the hair.
Sleeping with a satin or silk bonnet, scarf, or pillowcase can help reduce unnecessary friction.
  4. Tight Hairstyles
Styles that place excessive tension on the hair can weaken the strands over time.
Your installation should be secure without constantly pulling or stressing the hair.
  5. Too Much Manipulation
Afro Kinky Bulk Hair does not need to be constantly brushed, separated, twisted, or restyled.
The less unnecessary manipulation, the better.
  6. Rough Washing
Aggressively rubbing or scrubbing the hair can create tangles and increase breakage.
Your washing routine should be gentle and controlled.

How to Keep Your Afro Kinky Bulk Hair Full and Healthy

Now that you know what can contribute to shedding, here are some simple ways to protect your hair.

  1. Keep It Moisturized
Moisture should be a regular part of your routine.
Use a lightweight moisturizing spray or leave-in conditioner as needed, especially when the hair begins to feel dry.
You can also use a light natural oil to help seal in moisture.
Avoid applying excessive amounts of heavy products, as buildup can make the hair difficult to cleanse properly.
  2. Detangle Gently
If your hairstyle requires you to separate or detangle the hair, avoid doing so aggressively.
    Ideally:
    – Slightly dampen the hair first.
    – Apply a suitable leave-in or detangling product.
    – Use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb.
    – Work slowly from the ends upward.

Never force a comb through tightly tangled, dry hair.
  3. Reduce Friction
Protect your hair from unnecessary friction, especially while sleeping.
    Consider using:
    – A satin bonnet
    – A silk or satin scarf
    – A satin pillowcase
Also avoid constantly rubbing the hair against rough clothing, scarves, or other materials.
  4. Wash Gently
Your hair still needs to be cleansed regularly, but washing should be gentle.
    When washing:
    – Focus on cleansing the scalp.
    – Allow the shampoo to move through the lengths rather than aggressively scrubbing them.
    – Avoid rough rubbing and twisting.
    – Rinse thoroughly.
    – Follow with a suitable conditioner.
For textured hair, a gentle cleansing routine is generally preferable to aggressive washing.
  5. Give Your Hair a Break
Constant styling and manipulation can put unnecessary stress on the hair.
Once your locs, twists, or braids are installed, avoid repeatedly pulling them apart, restyling them, or unnecessarily brushing them.
With Afro Kinky Hair, less manipulation is often better.

2: Never Brush Dry Curls

Avoid brushing your curly extensions while they are dry, as this can separate the curl pattern, create frizz, and reduce definition.

Instead, lightly dampen the hair and gently detangle using your fingers or a wide-tooth comb, starting from the ends and working your way up.

3: Use Styling Products Sparingly

Curly extensions do not need excessive amounts of product.
Apply only a small amount of curl cream or lightweight serum when the curls need extra definition or shine. Using too much product can lead to buildup and weigh the curls down.

4: Protect Your Hair While You Sleep

Before bedtime, gently detangle the hair with your fingers and loosely braid or pineapple the curls.
Always wear a satin bonnet or sleep on a satin pillowcase to reduce friction and help preserve the curl pattern overnight.

5: Trim When Necessary

Over time, the ends of curly extensions may become dry or uneven.
A light trim every few months helps maintain a healthy shape and keeps the curls looking fresh and full.
